MEET DR. TEJA
Dr. Zeeny Teja was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and went to England to pursue her education at a very early age. Her basic dental degree was obtained from the London University in 1977, following which Dr. Teja practiced general dentistry in London, England for a few years. The desire for further professional development motivated her to complete a graduate program at the Eastman Dental Institute, London, England, earning her a master's degree in Pediatric Dentistry in 1985. Dr. Teja then pursued a career in Hospital Dentistry in the Children's Department of the Eastman Dental Hospital before returning to Kenya for a short period, to be close to her family. She was the first dentist to provide patient care at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi (1986).
Dr. Teja arrived in Seattle in 1987, where she re-established her career in Hospital Dentistry at Children's Hospital, Seattle. In 1989, she was accepted by the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Washington to pursue a graduate program in Orthodontics. She has been in private practice on Queen Anne since she graduated from the University of Washington in 1991. Since relocating to Seattle, Dr. Teja has served as the President of the Washington Association of Women Dentists and as an officer for the Washington State Society of Orthodontics.
Dr. Teja has a strong commitment to volunteer service. Since her arrival in Seattle in 1987, she has offered voluntary service for the Shia Imami Ismaili Community in the following capacities: Chairperson for the Health Committee, Chairperson for the Youth and Sports Board (local committees), Member of the Management Committee for the Community Center in Kirkland, Member of the Women's Development Portfolio at the National level, and various ad-hoc projects in an organizational capacity, for the same community. She was also the Honorary Secretary for the Seattle Management Committee for three years. She has recently been appointed to the position of Principal of Religious Education Classes at her community center in Kirkland. Dr. Teja was involved in similar roles for her community both in England and in Kenya. She has felt privileged to act as a role model for the youth and especially for the young women in her professional and religious community.
Over the years, Dr. Teja has developed strong bonds, not only with her patients, but also with the local community. She has sponsored two little league teams on Queen Anne and Magnolia. Additionally, her sincere desire to participate in youth development inspires her and her staff to offer voluntary service to St. Anne’s school on Queen Anne on a regular basis. Once a week, she and her staff assist with the school’s academic curriculum in a variety of subjects, providing individual tutoring for the students at St. Anne’s. Dr. Teja has been a regular sponsor of the Lure of McClure and supports the fundraising efforts of the other schools in her neighborhood.
We welcome you to come and meet her.
